BIO
Ryota Sato is a young jazz guitarist with a growing profile in the Bay Area. Now attending Stanford University, he is a part of the Stanford Jazz Orchestra and a student led pop band called "The Move," and actively gigs around the Bay Area. Previously, Sato was part of several local/state jazz bands such as the San Jose Jazz High School All Stars Big Band (4 years), San Jose Jazz High School All Stars U19S Combo (4 years), and the California Allstate High School Honor Jazz Band (3 years).
As an avid composer, Sato also writes his own songs. His original composition, "New Adventure" was awarded Outstanding Composition in the national Downbeat Student Music Awards.
He also received numerous other awards including the Louis Armstrong Jazz Award and an Outstanding Performance award in the Jazz Soloist category for Downbeat.
In addition to jazz music, he was a part of the Sunnyvale Community Players, where he played guitar in the pit orchestra for West Side Story.
Ryota is planning to major in electrical engineering and minor in music. He hopes to explore the intersection between engineering and music through signal-processing research at Stanford.
